My friend runs a small bakery. He applied for Mudra loan of ₹3 lakh. Rejected.
He applied again to a different bank. Approved.
Same business. Same documents. Different result.
The difference? He changed one thing on the application form.
I'll tell you what.
1. Wrong Category Selection – The #1 Rejection Reason
Mudra loan has 3 categories:
- Shishu – up to ₹50,000
- Kishor – ₹50,001 to ₹5,00,000
- Tarun – ₹5,00,001 to ₹10,00,000
Most people apply for Tarun because they want more money.
But banks check your business turnover. If your turnover is ₹3 lakh per year, you cannot get Tarun. You are Kishor.
What you should do: Apply for the category that matches your business size. Shishu for very small businesses. Kishor for medium. Tarun for established.
2. No Business Proof – The Invisible Wall
Mudra loan is for businesses. You need to prove you have a business.
What counts as proof?
GST registration (best)
Shop license (good)
A photo of your shop + a self-declaration on ₹10 stamp paper (minimum)
Many people apply with no proof. Bank cannot approve.
What you should do: If you don't have GST, get a shop license from your local municipal office. ₹500. Takes 1 week.
3. Bank Statement Mismatch – The Silent Killer
Banks ask for 6 months of bank statement.
They check if your business income matches your application.
If you say "I earn ₹30,000 per month from my business" but your bank statement shows ₹5,000 – reject.
What you should do: For 3 months before applying, deposit all business cash into your bank account. Build a clean statement.
4. Low CIBIL for Kishor/Tarun – The Hard Truth
For Shishu (₹50k), no CIBIL check.
For Kishor and Tarun, banks check CIBIL. Below 650 = reject or very high interest.
What you should do: Check your CIBIL score free on GPay or Paisabazaar. If below 650, take a small gold loan or credit card. Pay on time for 6 months. Score will rise.
5. Incomplete Application – The Careless Mistake
Wrong PAN number. Name mismatch between PAN and Aadhaar. Missing signature.
Small mistakes. Big rejection.
What you should do: Before submitting, check every field twice. Get someone else to check.
Real Example – How My Cousin Got Approved
My cousin runs a mobile repair shop. Turnover ₹6 lakh per year.
He applied for Mudra loan of ₹4 lakh (Kishor category).
He made sure:
His bank statement showed ₹20,000-30,000 monthly deposits
He had a shop license (₹500 from municipality)
His CIBIL was 720 (he paid credit card bills on time for 1 year)
Approved in 10 days. Interest 8.5%.
