Education India Live: Your Daily Dose of What Matters in Education

Education news is boring. Until it affects your child. Then it is the most important thing in the world.

Today's education news from India. No jargon. No politics. Just what you need to know to make decisions for your family.

1. The NEP Language Clarification

Union Minister Jayant Chaudhary spoke in Parliament today. He said: "There is absolutely no imposition of any language."

Tamil Nadu has objected to NEP 2020. The central government has still released ₹538 crore to the state under Samagra Shiksha. Funding continues regardless of political disagreements.

For parents: If your state government is objecting to NEP, your child's school might implement a modified version. Ask your school which language formula they are using. The central policy allows flexibility. Your state may choose differently.

2. The PM-SHRI Schools Question

PM-SHRI schools are exemplary institutions meant to demonstrate leadership and showcase the best elements of the NEP. Over 14,000 schools nationwide.

Tamil Nadu has not signed the MoU for PM-SHRI. The minister said: "Many lakhs of students of Tamil Nadu are feeling left out."

For parents: If you are in a state that has not signed up for PM-SHRI, your school misses central funding. Ask your school administration: Are we getting PM-SHRI benefits? If not, why not?

3. The West Asia Conflict and Indian Students

Over 375,000 Indians have returned from West Asia. Among them: medical students from Iran, engineering students from Gulf countries.

The government has established 24×7 control rooms and emergency helplines. CBSE has cancelled exams in Indian schools across affected countries.

For students abroad: If you are in West Asia, register with the Indian embassy. The government is tracking. They will help you return if needed. Do not assume you are on their list. Make sure you are.

4. The Food Security Link to Education

PM Modi said today: "The country's farmers have ensured that the country's food reserves are well-stocked."

Why does this matter for education? Mid-day meal schemes depend on food reserves. If reserves run low, nutrition programs suffer. Today, the reserves are strong. Your child's mid-day meal is secure.

For parents: If your child's school participates in the mid-day meal scheme, ask if there have been any disruptions. If there are, report it. The system is designed to work. Make sure it does.

5. The Funding Reality

Samagra Shiksha is the central government's flagship school education program. Under Samagra Shiksha 2.0, the government supports language teacher appointments.

If your state has not implemented NEP fully, your school might not get these funds. The money goes to states that follow the policy.

For parents: Check your school's teacher-to-student ratio. If language teachers are missing, it might be a funding issue. Advocate for your school to access central programs.

6. The Multilingualism Mandate

Paragraph 4.13 of the NEP explicitly promotes multilingualism. States must develop capacity for teaching three languages. Students must achieve proficiency in two Indian languages by age 15. The third language is left to local demand.

For parents: This is not a suggestion. It is policy. Your child will learn multiple languages. The question is which ones. Advocate for languages that matter for your child's future.

7. The Global Context

China is investing heavily in education technology. Their AI models handle 4.69 trillion Tokens per week. Their one-seed rice technology could transform agriculture. Their brain-computer interfaces are getting medical codes.

For parents: Your child is competing globally. Not just with students in the next town. With students in Beijing, in Silicon Valley, in London. Education in India must prepare them for that competition.

Value Addition: Three Questions to Ask Your Child's School Today

  1. Are you a PM-SHRI school? If yes, you get central funding. If no, why not?
  2. Which language formula are you using? NEP allows flexibility. Know what your child is learning.
  3. Are you using digital platforms? DIKSHA has 2 crore registered users. SWAYAM has 5.8 crore enrollments. Your school should be using these resources.

Education news is not boring. It is the future being built. Today, you saw the building. Now, you can act.

Question: What will you ask your child's school tomorrow? Write it down. Call them. The future waits for no one.
