You read English news. You think you know India.
You don't.
I read hindi news – Dainik Jagran, Amar Ujala, Hindustan, Rajasthan Patrika, Bhaskar.
Here are 5 stories. English media won't show you these.
Read them. Then ask yourself: what else are you missing?
Translation: "No water in this Bundi village for 5 years – have to order from tankers."
A village in Bundi district, Rajasthan, has no tap water. No hand pump. No well.
Residents buy water from private tankers. ₹500 for 1,000 litres.
A family of 5 uses 2,000 litres per week. ₹1,000 per week. ₹52,000 per year.
The headline: "Water scarcity in Bundi."
The truth: The government spends crores on statues. This village spends lakhs on water.
Why English media won't show you: Because it's not "breaking." It's normal. And normal doesn't sell.
Translation: "Children getting only rice in school – no dal, no vegetable."
A government school in Rajasthan serves mid-day meal. Only rice. No protein. No vitamins.
Children eat rice and salt. Their parents can't afford to send food.
The headline: "Mid-day meal scheme reviewed."
The truth: The budget is there. The dal is not.
Why English media won't show you: Because the scheme is a "success story." Failures are buried.
Translation: "Father sold his kidney to educate his daughter."
A farmer in Rajasthan wanted his daughter to become a nurse. He had no money.
He sold his kidney for ₹3 lakh. His daughter is now a nurse.
He walks with one kidney. She saves lives with two hands.
The headline: "Man sells kidney for daughter's education."
The truth: The government's scholarships didn't reach them. A black-market kidney did.
Why English media won't show you: Because it's too dark. Too real. Too India.
Translation: "CCTV installed at police station – but don't work."
A police station in UP installed 12 CCTV cameras last year. Today, 8 are broken. 2 point at the wall. 2 work.
The headline: "Police station gets CCTV surveillance."
The truth: Installed. Not maintained. Useless.
Why English media won't show you: Because it's not a scandal. It's routine.
Translation: "That young man changed the village – now every home has a toilet."
A young man in a Bihar village saw people defecating in the open. He went door to door. Convinced every family to build a toilet. No government scheme. No subsidy.
Now the village is open defecation free.
The headline: "Youth leads toilet construction."
The truth: He did in 6 months what the government couldn't in 10 years.
Why English media won't show you: Because good news doesn't sell.
What You're Missing
English newspapers cover India's surface. Hindi newspapers cover India's soul.
The village without water.
The school without dal.
The father who sold his kidney.
The police station with fake CCTV.
And the young man who built toilets.

Now you know.
